1957 Dodge D100 Pickup By John Corman
Mopar Truck Of The Month January 2017:
Engine compartment and drive train:
Although originally equipped with a flat head six and the push button automatic, it had a rebuilt poly 318 with the push button 727 from a 64 Plymouth donor car in it when I bought it. But now it's running a stock 1972 340 topped with an Edelbrock torquer intake and a Edelbrock 650 carburetor. To dress it up it has a black wrinkle painted duel snorkel air cleaner with a 340 pie tin on it and vintage Weiand black finned valve covers. A set of Shorty headers runs the duel exhaust to a set magnaflow mufflers and the exhaust then dumps under the bed. I've got a set of 70 a body exhaust tips to run out the back, but haven't got them or the hidden receiver hitch installed yet. It's running a stock Mopar electronic ignition system. The power steering unit was reclaimed from a 79 half ton Dodge pickup. Cooling it is a Volary radiator and a purple roadrunner beep beep horn keeps the traffic away. The 1964 push button 727 transmission that came with the poly motor has been modified to take later model LA motor torque converters. I installed a scarebird front disk brake setup on it with their spindles mounted on the original straight front axle. The battery was relocated from under the floor boards to the engine compartment. Finally the 8 3/4 open rear end is also from the 1964 donor car.
