Hi,
In
1970 Robert Mooney (aka Tach) bought this car. He
raced it for a year until the 340 that was in it
blew. Then tach went and made history, he took the
dart to the guys at cabco Fabrications in San Mateo
California (these guys were building funny cars at
the time). He wanted them to put a funny car frame
and narrow the rear end so he could run funny car
slicks under the car because he was putting in a 426
HEMI. He also told them he still wanted to drive the
car on the streets, 2 year later and the car comes
out and there you go the first Pro Street car ever
built. Tach
brings the car to the track and runs 8:60, that's
fast now! It was screaming then. Tach started to
show the car, he won the Street Machines Nats one
year and lots of shows in California. He was the
first cover car of Chrysler Power Magazine plus it
was in Hot Rod, Hot Rodding, Car Craft, Custom
Rodder just to name a few. Then in 1985 Tach sold
this awesome car, the two owner after Tach striped
this fantastic mopar and it almost found itself in
the junkyard. Mike De Vee saved this awesome
Dart from the junkyard and started the resto on it.
The way Mooney had it, but Mike couldn't finish the
job so three years ago I got the car from Mike and
the resto is just about finished. The
car looks great and boy it can still run with the
best of them, this year I have plans to bring it
back to the track to see what it will do. The HEMI
is stronger then it was when Tach had it. The car
has bin updated with things that they did not have
when Tach first built it. Well there you go, this
mopar has a great history and it has bin eating up
cars on the street for almost 30 years. Thanks, Tony
