Mopar Truck Of The Month
For March 2014: 2/6/2014 Update: I
was the second owner of a 1974 dodge 1/2 ton 318 engine automatic
transmission long bed pickup truck. The ordinal owner moved from
Colorado to Western Washington. I wanted one from the moment they came
out in 1973 and he didn't need it anymore. I was trying to wear out my
67 dodge pickup but I failed so I gave it away. Well the 74 never got
any rest and soon had over 200 hundred thousand miles on it. The engine
was tired. Well I prefer standard tranny so it was converted to a 4
speed manual and the V/8 engine was replaced with a used slant 6. The
V/8 was rebuilt then sold and was still running many years later in the
owners pickup truck. OH!! I said the engine was tired, well when
dismantled the timing chain just fell off.
Well it was my service truck and it never got a break but it was a bit
short on gears so an advanced adapters overdrive tranny was answered.
The truck never got a rest and that engine was tiring so it was rebuilt.
I sold my home in the country and
simplified my life by moving into an apartment. Now the troubles
started. The apartment manager said that the truck was to decrypted to
leave here so I parked it at my sons. He was using it as much as I was
anyhow but the fact that the manager wouldn't allow me to keep it here
kind of irked me. Well the truck was hit and the insurance company
totaled it and I bought it back and it did wind up with a miss matched
front end and door, well one fender was still original .It wasn't all
that pretty. My son and I decided to fix it up and I always liked the 79
and 80 duel headlight models and I located a 79 Ramcharger front clip.
Oh I wanted to two fuel tanks so I got another bed and tank from a two
fuel tank model. Of course it was a different color Maybe the manager
did have a point, regardless the fixing began. A chrome tub bar grill
was modified and installed, the interior had already worn out several
seats so we changed again and added a Ramcharger counsel.
Years back I had the his and hers 70 dodge
chargers, specially painted them lemon yellow, plum crazy and FED EX
lavender. Every body liked them, of course hers was an automatic and
mine was a 4 speed. And they turned heads. The truck was painted in the
same color combination Next came the bells and whistles and when
finished it could make a blind person smile. OH we added an advanced
adapters overdrive tranny giving me a 12 speed manual gear combination,
double overdrive. If you drove it carefully 27 and a 1/2 miles. Larry's
D100 was originally featured in
July 2008.
