Mopar Car Of The Month
For June 2012: 1971 Dodge Challenger R/T.
Purchased in 1985 as a rust bucket. The only Challenger R/T to be
manufactured with the M51 sunroof option and painted GY3 Citroen Yella
from the factory. It's even more unusual because it had a white stripe
and top. It originally had the hood blackout decal, but I chose a white
version during the resto process, otherwise it is restored as it was
built. This dealer demonstrator was one of the most expenisive E-bodies
built, with a sticker of $5600.34. Drive train-383, auto, 3:23 S.G.
Other original equipment: Power Sunroof, AM/FM cassette with five
speaker sound system, six way seat adjuster, A/C, rear defogger, power
windows, space saver spare, High Impact Paint, Chall. molding package,
wide grill surround molding, Road Wheels, painted sport mirrors, RWL
tires, hood pins, light package, PS, PDB. Featured in Mopar Collector's
Guide Magazine in May 2006. Resto shop-John's Body Shop in Nicollet, MN.
Body was restored 1987-1990 and included an acid dip of whole body and
body was rebuilt on a body jig. About 50% of the metal was replaced with
NOS and excellent used pieces. This was probably the most extensively
restored Mopar at the time. Repainted and freshened up a second time in
2005 by John's Body Shop. A true 1 of 1. I love to share this car with
Mopar people! Enjoy!
