3/20/2011 Update: This truck
was featured on 440magnum.com in
April of 2009 and has since become closer to completion. The
truck has received a 360 swap, retaining the factory A-500
transmission. The engine is a late 70's 360 block bored .030 over,
with large valve heads, factory stroke, KB 10.5:1 compression ratio
pistons, Edlebrock Air Gap intake, Holley 650 cfm vaccumm secondary
carb, Edlebrock Ti-Tech headers, and the combo is topped off with a
K&N 14" air cleaner.
The drivetrain is restored stock, including the
8 1/4 rearend with 3:90 gears (all factory). The cooling system
features a refurbished factory radiator, an auxiliary trans cooler
(the trans is cooled by both the factory cooler in the radiator and
the auxiliary cooler) and a Summit Racing electric fan. A early
style pre-71 water pump was necessary to swap in the engine without
cutting up anything under the hood. The body and paint are stock as
they left the dealership with the Mopar Express package. I run the
Mopar Express Dodge Dakota Registry on facebook, and have talked to
other owners of these trucks and this Dakota appears to be the only
Mopar Express finished in Twilight blue metallic.
The interior is
stock LE trim that has been refinished with Duplicolor's Medium Blue
vinyl and fabric paint, which is a perfect match to the factory blue
interior, the only additions are a sunpro triple-gauge cluster under
the dash, a SunPro SuperTachII, CB radio, and the essential for any
teenager; a modern stereo system. This truck originally had
Prospector package steel wheels (five spoke, beauty ring, black
center cap) but now features factory Aluminum wheels.
